Design Trends of 2022

null

Welcome to 2022! The new year brings with it plenty of opportunity for a change—and there’s no better place to begin than in the home. Stark minimalism and clean lines are taking a backseat this year, in favour of curves and colour. On the verge of a third year spent mainly indoors, trends are turning toward comfort and warmth. Think earthy tones, lush textiles and plenty of greenery. Get inspired with us.

Back to Nature

It’s time to reconnect with the great outdoors! You don’t have to be a green thumb to embrace all things natural when it comes to interior design. Rattan and terracotta are having a moment, while marble is the perfect luxurious accent to any bathroom or kitchen. Natural doesn’t have to mean neutral—a floral or leaf print wallpaper is ideal for the more adventurous among us. However, any minimalists should get excited for the many shades of brown we will be seeing pop up this year.

Get Cosy

If you’re going to be spending more time on the couch, you want it to be comfy, right? Create your own sanctuary with soft, curved shapes and plush materials. Textiles like linen, boucle and velvet are taking centre stage on everything from headboards to tablecloths, blankets and cushions. If you can sink right into it, it’s the perfect texture.

Colour Pop

Break out the palette—colour is back in a big way. White on white had its moment, but we’re ready to start dipping our toes back into the paint pot. Soothing green and blue hues bring the outside in, and bold patterns will be popping up in every nook and cranny. Add in an accent or fill the house with colour—the world is your oyster.

Another favourite in the 'colour pop category' is this kitchen designed by Wowowa for their Kepler Project (Photography by Martina Gemmola).

Embrace Sustainability

Shopping vintage isn’t just for fashion—2022 is the year to frequent your local antique store. Repurposing or upcycling serves a dual purpose: reducing your footprint while adding to the unique personality of your space. A beautiful wooden chest, an antique lampshade, a family heirloom—each piece of vintage furniture holds a story, and your home is the place to tell it.

Comfort and calm are at the top of the list this year—interior design trends will turn towards the peaceful and serene, while embracing nature and the outdoors. We can’t wait to see what you do with your home renovations in 2022.
