2.953"x3.937" hinges are suitable for standard internal doors up to 1.772" thick, whereas the 3.937"x3.937" hinges are the size preferred for thicker external doors up to 2.165". Both with 0.118" thick plates.

Up to 190lbs = 2 x hinges
191–264lbs = 3 x hinges
265–330lbs = 4 x hinges
